THEGALLERY, ARTS UNIVERSITY BOURNEMOUTH’S OFF-SITE ARTS PROGRAMME IN PARTNERSHIP WITH WEST BEACH
TheGallery, Arts University Bournemouth Off-Site Arts Programme in association with WestBeach, showcasing the work of staff, students and graduates from AUB.
WestBeach Restaurant has been working with TheGallery since the inaugural Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival in September 2011 and has since participated in showcasing TheGallery’s Off-Site Arts Programme.
TheGallery, AUB, delivers an exciting portfolio of events, exhibitions and commissioned projects, building upon the creative collaboration between the Arts University at Bournemouth and external venues.
TheGallery is delighted to work with WestBeach on our Off-Site Arts Programme, featuring the work Christy Ni, BA (Hons) Illustration graduate of 2017.
Stepping Stones: Christy Ni
Christy Ni graduated from Arts University Bournemouth with a BA (Hons) Illustration in 2017. Christy’s work was part of the Suddenly Last Summer 2017 exhibition at TheGallery, AUB. This exhibition celebrated the creative community of AUB and showcased new and upcoming talent from students graduating from Preparation for Higher Education, BA (Hons) Degree and Postgraduate courses.
Christy Ni works as a part-time freelancer and as an illustrator at Hallmark’s headquarters in Kansas City, USA. She studied as a 2017 exchange student from the Maryland Institute College of Art that enrolled in the BA (Hons) Illustration course. Through her experience of studying abroad, she experimented with animated GIFs and developed a passion for illustrative storytelling.
BA (HONS) ILLUSTRATION
The BA (Hons) Illustration course at AUB promotes a dynamic learning experience based upon critical discourse within a vibrant creative studio environment. Individual development is supported and nurtured through experimentation, exploration, innovation, and risk-taking.
The courses ethos embraces an expansive notion of illustration, recognising the potential for it to be seen as a wild frontier of creative potential within an increasingly interdisciplinary contemporary landscape. The breadth of practice encouraged by the course is considered essential to meet the challenge of emerging dialogues from both the more traditional basis of illustration through to the opportunities offered by exciting and new hybrid forms of culture and media.
THEGALLERY AND AUB
TheGallery works with courses right across the university on a variety of exhibitions, events and projects. “Stepping Stones”is another example of one of these projects that we have worked on with BA (Hons) Illustration graduate.
When working on a collaborative project we provide advice and support for the curatorial and technical aspects of the exhibition, as well as advice on event and project management and exhibiting work within a formal context.
TheGallery provides a national and international public platform for the arts within the sub-region as we promote the University’s shared passion for excellence in education, industry and the sector.
