30-years of printmaking at Arts University Bournemouth

Tracing the history and techniques of printmaking, this exhibition showcases the talent and innovation of students and staff from AUB through an extensive archive of work collected over the last 30 years.

With a collection print making tools and an installation showing the workings of a contemporary print room the exhibition presents a timeline of the Printroom’s 30-year history and its adaptation to modern technologies and contemporary practices.

The collection of works form the archive explores how students have responded to cultural influences over the last three decades including the Bauhaus, Pop Art and Postmodern movements through the use of different styles, materials and tools.

Including both 2-D and 3-D pieces the works on display demonstrate both traditional and modern techniques including seldom used and time staking methods. Printing techniques include: Lithography, Wood Cut, Wood engraving, Lino Cut, Lino engraving, Screen print, Aquatint, Etching, Collograph, Monoprint, Monotype, Solar Plate and Cyanotype.

Meet The Curators

Andrew Stacey
Andrew Stacey is an Artist and Author from Poole, Dorset. He has a degree in Fine Art and an MA from Arts University Bournemouth.

Since graduating Andrew has worked on public events and commissions for the local Council, developed a portraiture business and taught landscape painting to community groups. Between 2009-2014 Andrew managed Art Works gallery, Poole while pursuing an interest in curation. He has lead exhibitions for artists, groups, charity organisations and students from AUB. Most recently Andrew curated Coexist, at Lighthouse, Poole, an exhibition of work by alumni of Arts University Bournemouth exploring the how the concept of existence is  interpreted through different disciplines.

Andrew currently works as a technician for Arts University Bournemouth, where he has contributed towards theatre stage production, exhibitions, curation, events and graduate shows. His recent work within the Printroom has given him a fascination with both old and new printing processes and has seen him become involved within the Printroom collection archive.

In early 2017 Andrew published his first novel The Beautiful One. He has written articles for online supplements, a selection of short stories titled Dark and Spurious Soup and his poetry has been published in American poetry collection American Coffee Table.

Preeti Sood
Preeti is an Indian Artist and Printmaker currently living and working in Southern England. She has a BFA in Printmaking from Chandigarh College of Arts, an MFA in Printmaking from Santiniketan, India and an MA in Printmaking from University of the Arts, London.

In her own practice Preeti uses digital technology in conjunction with traditional printmaking processes to explore themes of cultural displacement. Her work has been exhibited internationally and in 2016 she won the John Purcell paper award.

Preeti’s work has appeared been exhibited at printmaking shows such as: International Print Centre New York, Originals and Bite as well as at art fairs internationally. Her work is held in the collections of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce and Jindals Steel, India.

Preeti has worked as an Artist Print Fellow at the University of Lincoln, as a teaching assistant at University of the Arts, London, and as a Printmaking assistant for Dr Angie Geary on the Oil & Air project at University of the Arts. She has also worked to incorporate printmaking into the curriculum at the British School in Delhi and her practice-based research has led her to participate in conferences all over the world.

Currently working as a Technician Demonstrator for Arts University Bournemouth, Preeti teaches students traditional print techniques and explore the boundaries of printing. She is a member of the Printmakers Council, Poole Printmakers and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
