Over the Summer, a visual collaboration between TheGallery at The Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) and WestBeach, the award-winning seafood restaurant on Bournemouth seafront, which will see an extension of TheGallery’s exhibitions hung in WestBeach, is taking place.
This visual collaboration, from the 3rd May – 26th September 2012, will feature artists including painter Professor Jim Hunter and sports photographer Richard Langdon.
From 3rd May – 27th July, the paintings of Professor Jim Hunter, a practicing artist, curator, writer and Deputy Principal of the AUB will be on display at WestBeach. The paintings are an extended series of works from Hunter’s ‘A Short Grand Tour’ series. The work derives from watercolours and
sketchbooks made during a sabbatical to Venice. Venice is taken as a metaphor for painting and through this, Hunter seeks to explore the concerns of painting: light, colour, form and the physical experience of these along with a sense of space and distance. Artworks from the Venice series formed the one-person exhibition ‘A SHORT GRAND TOUR’ held in TheGallery at the AUB in 2007. The exhibition toured nationally to a further three venues around the UK.
From the 28th July – 26th September 2012, photographs from AUB alumnus Richard Langdon will be hung in Westbeach in conjunction with the opening of the Olympics and the sailing events taking place in Weymouth. Langdon is founder of Ocean Images, one of Britain’s leading yachting photography businesses. He has a passion for photography and the sea, always pushing for new angles and ideas in yachting photography.
Violet McClean, Senior Gallery Officer at the AUB commented “We are delighted to be working with WestBeach on this unique collaboration – not only does it allow us to extend TheGallery’s artworks to a wider audience but it makes art even more accessible for all.”
