BA (Hons) Photography Senior Lecturer, Richard Paul, releases a vinyl-only album on the GSOH Record Label.
The observers ia an audio novella written and produced by Richard Paul, and narrated by BBC presenter Charles Nove. It is underpinned by a selection of motifs based on Schubert’s Winterreise, played on the hurdy-gurdy by Clare Salaman, director of The Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments, with audio design by Jack Mair (BMG production music).
The novella describes the post World War Two voyage of two observers to an Atomic bomb test in the Pacific, and was inspired by a photograph of a Crossing the Line ceremony from 1951, taken by Paul’s father, a merchant seaman at the time. The photograph is featured on the cover of the album.
The album will be launched at the preview of the exhibition Must/Have, at Brooklyn gallery, Theodore:Art on Saturday 4th November 2017. Paul will be presenting new photographic work as part of the exhibition, which also features Alan Belcher, Jeff Gibson and Michelle Vaughan.
