About this course

Building on our highly successful and reputable BA (Hons) Modelmaking course, we're proud to offer you this exciting new and unique one-week workshop specialising in cosplay, props and replica construction.

The course starts with an introduction into the diverse genres and cultures in replica construction, where you'll be introduced to examples of the different assembly methods, appearances, and often the highly guarded industry secrets of manufacturing techniques in making credible and highly realistic cosplay pieces and props.

During this immersive and highly practical course you'll develop the essential skills necessary to construct costumes, props and replicas using a wide variety of media and materials, working with specialist foam, card, 3D printed parts and other materials to complement the articles you wish to make.

You're encouraged to bring your own concepts or design ideas, but this is not essential. Throughout the course you'll learn how to apply authentic finishing touches to enable you to produce unique and creative functional items to display or use at conventions, such as ComicCon, and other similar events.

At the end of each day, you will receive formative feedback to measure your progress as individuals and as a group. Additional talks will be provided, where you will learn about the different disciplines within the cosplay arena, including information about prop/replica production and the associated industries.

  • Sketching templates
  • Concept and design techniques
  • Eva-foam texturing, assembling, and finishing
  • Finishing 3D printed props
  • Card modelling concepts
  • Tool making concepts
  • Experimentation with multiple materials

The minimum age for this course is 18 years.

This is an introductory course; therefore, there are no formal academic entry requirements. Whilst possessing previous experience constructing models and props is beneficial, no previous understanding or experience is necessary, although an interest in cosplay, replica and prop making is desirable. Good hand-eye co-ordination is beneficial.

Please get in touch with us if you wish to check your suitability for the course.

All course materials and resources, software and equipment is included in your course fee.

All students with 100% course attendance will be issued with an official AUB Short Course certificate of attendance. To request your certificate email the team at
