BA (Hons) Study AbroadFine Art

Course Overview

Semester Study Abroad courses are for students and professionals who wish to spend time abroad, developing their creative skills and gaining credits towards their university degree, but do not necessarily want to spend 2-3 years in another country.

Students are fully integrated with our BA (Hons) students in an exciting, creative University environment.

The Semester Study Abroad Fine Art course encourages ambitious individual practice and is underpinned by three strands: studio practice, cultural theory and professional development. You will stimulate and develop your own creative problem solving abilities and apply them in a multitude of situations. Fundamental elements of visual language are introduced and explored through engagement with materials, processes and the current theoretical context of Fine Art.

You will record observations or concepts through several methods such as drawing, photography, video/film, use of text, casting or painting. A series of provocative workshops and seminars will expand your approaches to observation and interpreting information. You will develop research and study skills, and become an active learner, working both independently and collaboratively. The emphasis of this course is placed on thoughtful experimentation and making in the studio and the development of ideas.

You will be encouraged to examine the context of your work and its relationship to audience. You will be challenged to refine your ideas and the concepts, which drive your work and will develop your research into theory and practice. At this advanced level you will be provided with a major opportunity for a period of extended creative exploration and development.

Whilst an independent investigative involvement will be expected from you, you will be introduced to commentaries and debates through a series of elective seminars. You will address a wide range of issues surrounding current fine art practice from key conceptual concerns and critical debate, to practical methodologies, research processes and operating successfully in the professional arena.

Portfolios are required from all prospective candidates who wish to do a Semester Study Abroad course at the Arts University. The portfolio’s purpose is to show us how you communicate and translate ideas visually. Your portfolio will be reviewed by the course leader and a panel who will determine the most appropriate year of study in the course for each candidate.

Other type of programmes, such as bespoke courses are also available. For more information or to apply for a course contact us on +44 1202 853624 or email studyabroad@aub.ac.uk
