PETER ADAMS – LIFE DRAWING MASTERCLASS
Having graduated from Wimbledon University with a BA (Hons) in 3 Dimensional Design with Theatre Design as its Chief Study, Peter worked as a freelance designer/prop maker working for Stephanos Lazaridis producing a vast selection of costume research drawings for Prince Igor, performed by Opera North. He then worked for Peter Cooke an Australian designer who he assisted in model making for productions for the Sydney Opera House.
While working for The London Bubble Theatre Company, Peter was commissioned to design Savages by Christopher Hampton which he designed, built props and painted backdrops. Other selected design work has included Othello, The Importance of Being Ernest, Guys & Dolls (set design & painting, La Zapatera Prodigiosa by Lorca (set design & painting), Into the Woods by Sondheim,Lapine (set design & painting). A Comedy of Errors designed for Trinity Theatre Company’s outdoor performance (set designed, built & painted).
Peter’s forte as an artist has always been portraiture & technical drawing where he was asked to teach one to one at an International School in London teaching Art & Design, preparing student’s folios for entry onto foundation courses. Such was his passion for Art & Design teaching he gained a PGCE in Art & Design at Brighton University.
Since then, he has worked teaching ‘A’ Level Photography, Graphic Design, Product Design, in addition to GCSE Design Technology with resistant materials.
Highlights in his teaching career have been to teach ‘A’ Level Fine Art at the prestigious Tonbridge Grammar School; delivering lessons in portrait painting using mixed media, directing & organising a fashion show to raise money for GOSH.
Peter Gregory Adams BA PGCE, is currently preparing work for a retrospective exhibition to be shown in the Spring 2016.
John Gridley – Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe InDesign & Adobe Illustrator
John Gridley currently teaches Web Design with us as a visiting tutor.
Previously working for over 25 years within a corporate publishing house, John’s background crosses over between offline and online media. With qualifications in Photography, Graphic Design, Video editing, Multimedia and a Degree in Graphic Design (Interactive Media), he has experience in print reproduction, brand awareness, and current Internet web technologies. John also runs his own creative design company Weird Bean Design based in Hampshire, offering businesses of all sizes a unique mix of service and strategic thinking.
John is passionate about Digital Design and regularly speaks at local business and networking events on the subject.
Julia Carter – Life Sculpting
Julia has had a varied and diverse career in art and design spanning thirty years. Working as an architect’s assistant in her early career she went on to take a BA (Hons) degree in Modelmaking for Design and Media, specialising in sculpture and mould making.
Combining her background in sculpting with qualifications in architectural ceramics she has, over many years, undertaken various commissions, which have been both private and public projects. Julia has taught classes for sculpting in a six form college and both sculpting and life drawing with us as a VT. Currently she works full time in our workshops, where she facilitates students across all courses, advising them on materials, techniques and in the making of their work.
Linda Bell-Simmonds – 1 Year Interior Design & Introduction to AutoCAD
Linda was once a student at AUB and studied on the Spatial Design course, she has always had an interest in the creative industries with art and design being her main passions. Linda has worked on residential and commercial interiors emcompassing leisure centres, offices, shops and houses; she has also been involved with giving old furniture a new lease of life and designing ads for press.
Nick Meaney – Acting for Beginners & improvers
Nick lived in France, Greece, Spain and Tenerife for a number of years and speaks Spanish and French fluently. After reaching the position of Sales and Marketing Director of Prudential International Property for Tenerife and Southern Spain, he decided to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming an actor. He moved to the USA and won a place at the prestigious acting conservatory The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles. Nick graduated from the AADA and won the Philip Loeb Award for Acting both in 1990 and 1991. Nick continued his studies for the next 5 years with one of Hollywood’s top acting coaches Stan Roth who taught the same techniques ACTA uses to Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire.
In 1991 Nick, Max Foster and Tom Crawford formed a talent management company called Classic Talent Management. CTM continues to run and has been successful in procuring roles for it’s clients in Films, TV and Commercials including Apollo 13, Pirates of the Carribean, Jerry Maguire, Catch Me if You Can, Titanic, Gone in 60 Seconds, Air Force One, Will & Grace, Scrubs, That’s So Raven, CSI, Without A Trace, Malcolm In The Middle, The X-Files, IBM, McDonald’s, Volvo, Fosters Beer, Microsoft.

Pete McKinley: Manager (Short Courses) – Tutor: Discover Photography (Saturday)
Pete is an ex-Royal Navy Photographic Officer with 30 years of accumulated experience in a diverse range photographic disciplines.
On leaving the Royal Navy Pete worked as a freelance photographer before opening his own studio, catering to the advertising, commercial and social sectors.
Having made the move into education several years later Pete has designed developed and delivered many Short Courses with us including the very popular Summer Photography Programme and Specialised Bespoke training programmes that Pete offers to local companies and individuals.
Danny STACK – Scriptwriting for Film & TV
As a writer, Danny’s TV credits include EastEnders (ITV) and Doctors (BBC), as well as episodes for various children’s shows including the revamp of Thunderbirds Are Go! for CiTV. Danny is also a writer/director. His debut feature, a live-action children’s film called Who Killed Nelson Nutmeg? had its world premiere at the London Film Festival in October 2015. He has previously directed a number of shorts, most notably his ambitious supernatural thriller Origin which won Best Horror Short at the London Independent Film Festival in 2012.
For much of the noughties, Danny worked as a story analyst for a variety of film companies including Working Title, Pathe, Miramax (Harvey Weinstein era) and the UK Film Council, to name but a few. He was development script editor for the British film, The Man Inside, starring Peter Mullan (2012), and he script edited the Irish-language feature film Kings starring Colm Meaney (2007). When required, he also acts as a script doctor covering various genres, and was hired to do a rewrite of the upcoming Lego Friends movie. He has also written dialogue and narrative elements for the computer games Colin McRae: Dirt and Score: Hero.
Danny writes the popular blog Scriptwriting in the UK. He also created & co-hosts the monthly UK Scriptwriters Podcast. In addition, he set up the Red Planet Prize, a unique screenwriting talent scheme, with writer/producer Tony Jordan.
Sophie Monro – Make-Up For Film, TV & Theatre
Sophie first completed a BA (Hons) degree in Photographic Art before turning her attentions to make-up and undertaking a VTCT course in Theatrical & Media Make-up. Sophie has experience in theatre, film and photographic make-up work and is enjoying the challenge of working on our FdA Makeup course.
Jason Bascombe – DEDicated Photography
After graduating from AUB with a Degree in Commercial Photography, Jason undertook a Masters degree in Photography and the Land at the University of Plymouth. During this time he was able to make a number projects based around the land and it’s surrounding architecture, from subject matter all over the UK.
Jason has also gained experience, over a number of years, working as a freelance photographer and as a photographic assistant in advertising and editorial fields. Jason uses both film and digital photographic capture as well as analogue and digital print output.
Preeti Sood – Creative Printmaking
Preeti was born in Delhi. She did her Bachelors in Printmaking from Chandigarh College of Arts and pursued her Master at Santiniketan, Kala Bhavan in Fine Arts and later did her second MA degree in printmaking at Camberwell College of Art, University of the Arts London.
Upon graduating she taught at the British School in New Delhi, India and practised as an artist in Garhi Studios, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. She won a scholarship to study in Britain and worked for two years as an Artist Fellow at the University of Lincoln. She has done three solo shows internationally and has been selected as an artist in various printmaking shows in London, Delhi, Bangalore and Japan.
Her research is focused on a practice-based approach located within Fine Art. It revolves around notions of Absence and Presence whereby She explores the concept of ‘GLOCAL’ (Global + Local) within an urban landscape in the context of India where she grew up and Britain where she currently lives. Her practice has evolved into an exploration of this sense of displacement experienced by individuals inhabiting two disparate cultures, through the medium of print.
Krishna malla – graphic design – an introduction
Krishna is a Street artist, graphic designer, and event manager from Cornwall. After graduating as an illustrator at the Arts University Bournemouth Krishna freelanced as an artist for clients such as BBC, Channel 4, Red Bull, New Era, Rekorderlig, Desperado, Boomtown, Secret Garden Party, and currently works as a graphic designer for Silver Crane (‘2012 design team of the year’- Uk Packaging design awards).
Managing ‘Secret Walls X Bournemouth’ (live art battle) has led Krishna into the world of street art, painting very large murals and specialising in freehand photorealism with spray paint.
DAVID BIRD – DEDICATED PHOTOGRAPHY
David has been working in the Photographic industry for more than 25 years with experience in the editorial sector. He started out as a Freelance Photographer in the North West to working on the picture desk of a national newspaper in London.
Having studied at AUB in the 1990’s David moved to London and worked with many studio and location photographers until setting up his own studio working with many international brands including Kenco, Sony and Cunard. David has a wealth of experience in studio, still life, fashion, portraiture, documentary photography, and wet and dry printing. David continues to work with trusted brands from his purpose built studio in The New Forest.
Joe Allen – digital marketing
Joe has a vast experience and knowledge accumulated and honed as a New Business Development Manager and Relationship Manager. Presently the Managing Director at Ascesis Media, a full service digital house.
Responsible for generating new business clients, looking after existing clients, sourcing new ventures and managing the company.
Focused on creating, deploying and measuring marketing campaigns, as well as pursuing new and existing businesses to collaborate with. Responsible for building rapport with customers and business professionals, and ensuring a smooth transition during the cycle of prospect to client. Specialising in utilising formulated strategies to identify potential business prospects, and using funnel sales cycles to close clients.
Favourite marketing strategy when building a marketing campaign is “inbound marketing” as it on set goals, when implemented correctly.
Personal assets include consulting with key members of businesses and establishing a working relationship with them. In addition, the recognition of the power of social media and to formulate target companies for future business opportunities.
KELLY MONKS – PROSTHETIC CASUALTY MAKE-UP & SPECIAL FX – AN INTRODUCTION
After completing a Foundation in Art and Design, Kelly went on to earn a degree and graduate from the BA (hons) Make-Up for Media and Performance course at AUB. With a fundamental understanding and discipline in all aspects of makeup, Kelly’s true passion lies in prosthetic make-up effects. Working within contexts of film, television and theatre, Kelly’s focus remains on that of the technical processes involved in the creation of such effects. These include skills in life casting, sculpting, mould-making, casting, application, colouration, hair punching and postiche.
TOM SUDDREY – ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS
After graduating from AUB in 2000 in Design and Illustration, Tom has been working for both national and international clients, creating illustrations and designs for web and print as well as animating music videos, TV adverts and corporate videos for clients like Joss Stone, McCarthy & Stone, Starbucks, Multiyork and many more.
As an Animator at LoveLove Films, Tom also brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in digital workflow management and Adobe Creative Suite training. With the large number of University placements at LoveLove Films, Tom takes care to ensure that the animation students are trained in using industry standard software and have hands on creative input on live client projects. His aim is to ensure that through hands on experience, students rise to the challenge of completing their tasks on time, whilst understanding the need of meeting the client brief.
Tom has demonstrated Adobe products at trade shows and delivered training to both students and businesses during his career. With expert knowledge of After Effects and other Adobe packages, Tom brings practical training for those who want to start a career in the animation and VFX industries.
Tim John – Creative Writing – AN INTRODUCTION
After an award-winning career in Advertising and British television success as one of the original writers for “The Max Headroom Show”, plus a spell writing for HandMade Films, Tim pursued a seven-year career in Hollywood, writing feature screenplays for nearly all the major studios, together with Network and Cable television. As well as working on his original material, he has also worked with stars such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bill Murray.
Tim returned to live in England a few years ago, where he continues to write for both sides of the Atlantic, generally working in Comedy, although his material is taking on an increasingly dark tone. He blames his mother. His film adaptation of the best-selling book A STREET CAT NAMED BOB commences production in October 2015. Tim has also had three books published and taught Creative Writing, Screenwriting and Advertising.
alena bessant – womenswear top & skirt, jacket making skills
Born in Czech Republic, fashion designer and entrepreneur Alena Bessant studied BA (Hons) Fashion Design at The Arts Institute at Bournemouth working on ‘Live projects’ with designers such as Tracey Boyd, Justin Oh, Vivien Westwood or A. McQueen during her studies.
Following her successful showing at the London Graduate Fashion Week, Alena went on to work as a designer for leading UK Silk manufacturer, designing for high street labels including Designers at Debenhams (Pearce Fionda, Ben de Lisi, Mathew Williamson, Gharani Strok), Monsoon, Muji, Marks and Spencer, August Silk, Kookai.
In 2005, Alena has launched her own fashion label and presented her first solo collection at the Swatch Alternative Fashion Week, London. Since then, she has been regularly showing at the Prague Fashion Week and has been nominated for The Talent of the Season Award at PFW and the Top Style Designer Award at the International Textile Fair in Czech Republic. Her designs have been featured in a number of fashion magazines in Czech Republic and internationally.
Beside her specialist subject fashion design and creative pattern cutting, Alena’s interest is in fashion illustration with graphic pens media. Alena has also undergone training in Fashion Design at CSM and Institut Français de la Mode, Experimental and Explorative pattern cutting at Central Saint Martins and was awarded Certificate of Excellence for TR Pattern Cutting Master class with Japanese designer Shingo Sato.
Katie thomas – interior design using autocad & sketchup, introduction to interior design
Katie completed a BA (Hons) in Interior Architecture and Design with us, followed by achieving a distinction in Architecture: Spatial Practices.
Katie recently established her own Interior Design and Architecture company, KTM Design, working on luxury residential and commercial projects across Dorset and London. She has worked for several design practices across the UK, is involved in property development and interned at The Studio at Harrods and with Vanessa Brady OBE, president of the Society of British and International Design (SBID).
Katie takes a holistic, user-centred approach to design and is driven by her passion of designing spaces to enrich the human experience. Katie’s interests are varied, but she has specific interests in sound and acoustics and designing for disability. In the summer of 2015, Katie designed and built an accessible performance set to promote the integration of disabled and non-disabled dancers.
ANDREW PATON – WORDPRESS – EASY WEB DEVELOPMENT
Andrew graduated from the University of Paisley (now University of the west of Scotland) with a BSc in Multimedia Computing with distinction in 2003 and has been designing websites in one form or other ever since.
In 2006 graduated from The Robert Gordon University with a PgDip in Information & Library Studies, which gave Andrew grounding in organising information. This helps in the early design stages when building a website, as the layout needs to be intuitive for visitors to be able to navigate and find what they are looking for. Is part of the user experience (UX).
Currently Andrew runs a website and graphic design business called anpatmedia in Bournemouth, where he has been developing WordPress sites since 2012.
Andrew is engaged in business networking in Bournemouth and has given some talks on WordPress security, which is becoming more important given the number of CMS run on WordPress.
