Digital Film Making - A Technical Introduction

Shooting, sound and video production – a perfect course for anyone wanting to get a first taster of digital filmmaking and gain a thorough understanding of the equipment used.

This is an introductory course aimed to deliver a high level of technical competence for those new to filmmaking or perhaps enthusiastic amateur filmmakers. Combining a series of practical demonstrations, lectures and filming workshops with group instruction, this course has been designed to provide you with a solid foundation to build on your technical and film production skills.

You will be introduced to the basics of video camera technology, where you will understand how video cameras work, appreciate the creative features available and become familiar with camera operations through practice. You will gain a sound understanding of lenses, exposure and mixed lighting scenarios, including sound recording, shooting techniques and the use of specialist accessories such as camera tripods and track dolls. You will also be introduced to the advanced features of the latest HD DSLR as an alternative to video film camera.

Through a series of filming workshops, you will be introduced to film ‘storyboarding’ and given shooting scenarios in which to practice your filming techniques. You shall also be given demonstrations in film editing and the opportunity to practice as the course progresses.
