Pre-Foundation Portfolio Preparation in Art, Design and Media

Delivered in our state-of-the-art Foundation studios, students will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with life as an Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) student.

Course Details

This new part-time 10-week course aimed at students aged 16-18 years has been specially developed for those preparing for application to Foundation studies and wish to consolidate on their current creative practices and approaches.

Delivered in our state-of-the-art Foundation studios, students will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with life as an Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) student, explore the application process for progression to Foundation study level and develop a robust and impressive portfolio.

Taught by our vastly experienced staff, students will receive direction and support to enable them to develop and complete a diverse body of art, design and media focussed work through a series of immersive and challenging project briefs, and explore and appreciate the approaches and methodologies required for this type of study.

Students will also receive guidance on interview preparation, techniques and how to self-promote ideas, intentions and ambitions.

We at AUB understand how important our next generation of students are in having so much potential and with so much ability and enthusiasm, students will receive support and guidance from their dedicated course tutor and assistant to fully explore their creative talent and future potential as a Foundation student at AUB.

  • Developing skills in the fundamentals of visual practice and research
  • Conducting workshops in drawing, painting, sketchbook work, conceptual idea development, 3D, life drawing and sculpture
  • Working with a range of mixed media
  • Exploring a variety of fundamental creative techniques and methods
  • · Developing observational and expressive drawing techniques
  • Developing a sketchbook with records of independent research, idea development and experimental work
  • Designing and producing creative work in a range of materials - analyse and respond to the work of historical and contemporary artists and designers
  • Continual formative appraisal and critique
  • Support in making an application to study at AUB

  • Receive continual formative feedback and critique on all your assignments and summative feedback upon completion of the course
  • Develop a new understanding of the foundation course environment and feel confident about your decision to apply to AUB
  • Increase confidence when talking or writing about your own work
  • Have added to your portfolio with a body of work that reflects your experience of answering project briefs
  • Boosted your creativity!
  • All students with 100% course attendance will be issued with an official AUB Short Course Certificate of Attendance

Entry requirements and fees

Students should be aged between 16-18 years and be prepared to bring lots of energy and enthusiasm!

This course costs £299 and all course materials are provided by AUB.
