3D Design and 3D Printing – An Introduction

The course provides students with an introduction to the fundamentals of 3D design.

Course Details

This new course aimed at students aged 12-16 years has been specially developed for young artists and makers and those taking their first steps in realm 3D design, the course provides students with an introduction to the fundamentals of design which covers a broad area and can relate to architecture, interior-spatial design, modelmaking, product design, fashion design and product innovation.

The course will introduce students to the essential steps of creative approaches, idea development, problem-solving and the processes to progress their understanding. Students will explore drawing techniques, transferring 2D information to 3D reality, making skills, communication and presentation techniques.

Through these activities, students will be encouraged to explore the design process through concept development, problem-solving and innovative approaches. Students will be introduced to 3D modelling software as a way to present and explore their ideas in a 3D environment. Students will aim to take their 3D creations one step further with the latest innovation in 3D printing technologies and will explore sustainable solutions for printing. Students will learn the importance of examining a product’s life cycle and developing a product that will reflect smart and sustainable choices for a greener world.

During this introductory course, students will be provided with the opportunity to tour Arts University Bournemouth specialist workshops and Innovation Studio to observe and witness the unique possibilities 3D Design offers as a future study option and to understand the career opportunities open to designers.

Meet your tutor

Ekaterina Savosina is a self-starting innovator, entrepreneur and footwear designer with 8+ years of experience who uses the latest in VR and CAD technology, sustainable solutions and break-through materials to create unique products that connect to the consumer needs. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Arts with Product Design and Development in Cordwainers Footwear from Arts University London, Ekaterina has built an exciting portfolio of international work experience through employment and involvement in projects in Dubai, London, Milan, Egypt, China and Amsterdam.

Entry requirements and fees

Ideally students should be aged between 12-16 years and be prepared to bring lots of energy and enthusiasm!

This course costs £199 and all course materials are provided by AUB.
