Course Philosophy

Our philosophy is to provide current and potential creative arts educators with practical and useful knowledge, skills and an understanding of higher education teaching as a living practice and social activity with great responsibility.

You will be a creative practitioner involved in teaching, or supporting teaching, or with a keen interest in teaching in Higher Education as a future career.

You will join other creative practitioners from a range of disciplines and educational contexts to share, develop, learn and collaborate on ideas and projects that will stretch and challenge you.

The focus of the course will be on providing the best student experience possible in your creation of new tools, individual practices and innovative teaching approaches.

The course will offer the opportunity to develop an effective approach to teaching and learning and to embed your arts practice within this. In turn your practice will underpin your skills, knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning in the explicit context of the education workplace setting.

The course will draw on institutional and individual strengths in support of the creative student experience, exposing you to best practice in how you teach creative subjects in order to enable you to develop the best learning experiences possible.

Applicants will be drawn from the following areas:

  • External, current or aspiring art teachers and lecturers
  • Existing artists who want to develop a career in higher education teaching
  • MA students who want a career edge and have an interest in higher education teaching

Applicants will need to demonstrate a strong interest in creative practice and teaching.
