This course offers a hands-on introduction to the wonderful world of illustration – from brief to final artwork.

Illustration is all about finding visual solutions to communicate or visually extend an idea, message or text. With help from your encouraging tutor Jennette Slade, this course explores ways in which you can develop your personal style of image making in the context of Illustration.

Looking at approaches to art, design and illustration will help to inform the development of your artwork and to understand illustration in the context of visual culture today. You will be encouraged to visit and record exhibitions and collect images and materials on which to inspire your practice.

Sketchbooks will be essential to build confidence in the process of visual problem solving, drawing, gathering research and thinking through of ideas.

You will have an opportunity to develop your illustration practice using the creative process -including mind-mapping, research and development – in order to create illustrations with confidence while responding to a variety of briefs.
