Life Sculpting - An Introduction

Course Overview

This course is ideal for anyone seeking to learn and develop their skills in three-dimensional sculpture, working with clay.

Delivered in Arts University Bournemouth specialist workshop facilities, with a life model for the duration of the course.

Through a combination of theory, practical workshops and group collaboration, you will quickly master the art of fashioning and sculpting (air-drying) clay into full-size replicas of your study.

Life Sculpting is all about combining skills. During the course a combination of a prescriptive measuring techniques shall be understood and practiced, along with a basic knowledge of human anatomy, observation and artistic interpretation will align together.

The course will develop your fundamental practical skills and provide the theory required to sculpt the human head using clay. You will be encouraged to explore your full potential, and will finish the course with a three-dimensional representation of the model.

THE COURSE INCLUDES

  • Introduction to and the use of an armature
  • Introduction to facial anatomy
  • Following a measuring system and transferring this to your sculpt
  • The provision of a model for the duration of the course…
  • The techniques required to work with clay

Course Aims

The course aims to:

  • Provide a relaxed environment
  • Encourage artistic initiative and interpretation
  • Enhance your observation skills
  • Develop your understanding of facial anatomy
  • Deliver the skills required to work within a three-dimensional format

Course Outcomes & Assessment

  • Ongoing design guidance will be provided throughout the course
  • Students should have acquired and developed the necessary skills in which to produce three-dimensional format clay sculpt
  • Students will have a sound working knowledge of facial human anatomy
  • All students with 100% course attendance will be issued with an official AUB Short Course Certificate of Attendance detailing course contents, and study hours

Entry Requirements

This introductory course assumes students possess no previous experience and is suitable for beginners, or those students who wish to improve upon their current skillset.

What You Need To Bring

You should wear old clothes and flat, closed toe shoes. Although basic tools are provided, students are encouraging to provide their own.
