The course focuses on costume and set design for theatre and costume design for film.

We place a real emphasis on conceptual work and as well as teaching established practices in design we also like to explore a broad variety of performance disciplines.  Such as festival design, outdoor theatre, puppetry and skills for working on a television or film set. The skills you learn will prepare you for a wide range of other creative careers.

Performance Studies and Film Costume is a diverse and demanding subject – you need to be interested in art, design and all genres of film and theatre.

You’ll discover how to create whole new worlds on this exciting and creative course. As well as technical and digital design skills, you’ll learn that great design depends on your ability to interpret ideas. The course is dedicated to sustainable practices and look at ways to connect with industry and develop this within the curriculum, wherever we can.

On the course, you will work alongside film, make-up and acting students on stage in ‘live’ productions and on-set during film shoots. While your eventual career may focus more in the theatre or on film, we believe that becoming the designer of either discipline and immersing yourself in the design process is what sets our students apart and gives them an edge.
