Gideon graduated from the University of Central England with a degree in Fine Art in 1995. He became a full time professional modelmaker in 1997 and has nearly twenty years industry experience covering a broad range of disciplines, working in film, television and theatre as well as industrial and specialist modelmakers. He has worked as a puppet maker, prop maker and set builder on feature films, commercials, TV series and theatre projects. And has also designed, made and installed museum exhibits, developed industrial projects and product prototypes. Even though Gideon has had a varied career as a modelmaker his main specialism has been in the area of stop motion animation, working for Aardman Animations for over a decade. This has provided a wealth of experience and knowledge in making and filming TV series and feature films, working in a live studio environment and fulfilling high level client briefs.
Gideon completed his MA Illustration in 2018 and contiues to work with research and art based practitioners. His own practice is rooted in innovative ways of thinking, new materials, new techniques and academic examination. It seeks to raise questions about everyday space and our place within it: establishing a discourse between what is considered scientific and the emotional experience. He responds to academic research and the simplicity of natural systems, attempting to build a cohesive relationship between art and science.
Gideon also teaches at AUB as a Visiting Tutor. He is course leader for the ‘Introduction to Modelmaking‘ Short Course, providing a stepping stone into modelmaking for external and internal students, and works with Widening Participation and Short Courses to deliver units for the Spring and Summer Art Schools.
