As Wimbledon returns to our screens again, AUB students celebrate by marking 80 years since the championships were first televised by the BBC in 1937.
AUB students from BA (Hons) Costume and Performance Design, BA (Hons) Dance, BA (Hons) Film Production and BA (Hons) Make-up for Media and Performance collaborated to produce a two minute film celebrating 80 years of working the camera!
Alumna of the AUB BA (Hons) Make-up for Media and Performance course, Kate Wakefield achieved an amazing First Place in the professional ‘Fantasy Makeup’ category at the National Make Up Awards, held at Birmingham NEC.
The theme of the category was Pirates of the Caribbean.
Two second year BA (Hons)Make-up for Media and Performance students have enjoyed success in the Student Competition at the National Make-Up Awards.
Ellen Sharrocks was awarded First Place for ‘Best Simulation Make-up’.
The event, which runs over three days, is an annual occurrence for the staff team, and gives students the opportunity to network with professionals before they graduate.

18 BA (Hons) Acting, Costume and Performance Design, Creative Events Management and Make-up for Media and Performance students recently collaborated with outdoor theatre specialists And Now and creative producers Activate to deliver a 24-hour brief.
Claire won the Student Category for Film & TV, designing and applying a show-stopping entry based on the theme of the French Revolution.
Second and third year BA (Hons) Make-up for Media and Performance students were thrilled to welcome renowned prosthetics artist, Stuart Bray.
Stuart has recently been working on the hugely popular TV show Game of Thrones. He has also worked on Shaun of the Dead, The Walking Dead, and Doctor Who, and was invited to Arts University Bournemouth to do a prosthetics demonstration and to give a talk.
BA (Hons) Make-up for Media and Performance was delighted to welcome industry professionals Sarah Grundy, Brian Kinney, and Maddie Austin to AUB this week in order to interview third year students as part of their Professional Identity projects.
Sarah’s career has spanned four decades and in TV and her recent work has included the TV series Episodes, Apple Tree Yard and Stan Lee’s Lucky Man. She said “the presentations were extremely professional in their execution, displaying the thoroughly taught skills included on this excellent course. The students were enthusiastic, ambitious, and proud of their time here at the AUB.”
Make-up effects artist, prosthetics designer and Honorary Fellow, Nick Dudman, recently employed five BA (Hons) Make-up for Media and Performance graduates.
Nick told Course Leader, Sara Taylor: “In my opinion, and in the opinion of my senior crew, the graduates are the best trainees we have ever taken on.
She said: “I got the job by knocking on the stage door. This led to a week’s work experience and then a permanent job.
BA courses collaborate on ‘Creative Match Night’,
The Creative Match Night, due to take place on the 20th October, has been organised by BA (Hons) Make-Up for Media and Performance, BA (Hons) Fashion, BA (Hons) Textiles and BA (Hons) Commercial Photography.
