Biography

As Course Leader Conrad has written and developed one of the most exciting and successful photography degrees in the country. Within the HE sector, he has a recognised profile, including being elected Chair of The Association for Photography in Higher Education (APHE) between 2011-14, helping him to maintain a high profile in the photographic community. 

Conrad has been an External Examiner at:

The University of the Arts Norwich, University of the Creative Arts London (LCC), University of Brighton (BCC), University of Chester (NCC) and Gloucestershire University (SNC)

Conrad has also been an External Panel member on validations at: 

Cork Institute of Technology, Derby University, De Montfort University and EDXCELL

Conrad has also maintained working links with international educational establishments including Parsons New School and the fashion Institute of Technology in New York.

 

Before working at AUB, Conrad was a Visiting Tutor, and Lecturer at a number of institutions, including:

Portsmouth University and the University of the Creative Arts London (Rochester).

Conrad has working links with several international universities, including Parsons New School and the Fashion Institute of Technology, both in New York.

In 2013, Conrad was awarded the honour of receiving the prestigious Award for Services to Photographic Education, from the Royal Photographs Society, in recognition of his work in the field. 

Professional practice

Professionally Conrad has freelanced for editorial clients, including the Observer Magazine and the Saturday and Sunday Times Magazines. His work has also been represented by both Photonica and Getty Images, for advertising and promotion. Conrad’s documentary work has also been exhibited nationally over the last 20 years. He continues to make work and when he has the time and takes on occasional commissions, including an ongoing body of work based around alternative football culture in Hamburg, titled ‘Sometimes Antisocial, Always Anti-fascist (FC Sankt Pauli), which was exhibited as a solo show at The Parkside Gallery, Birmingham in April 2019. Recent commissioned work includes Bond & Coyne in 2016.

He has developed a network of important contacts within the photographic industry that both enrich the courses’ contemporary currency and inform the curriculum, this includes agents, picture editors, stylists, advertising creatives, art directors, photographic assistants and photographers.

Conrad chaired the War on Want Photography Award ‘Document’ 2010 as well as Co-curating an International Student Photography exhibition as part of New York Photography Festival 2010.
