Megan Purdie

Lecturer – Acting

Megan trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Guildford School of Acting and Rose Bruford College. She is the unit leader for Negotiated Practice and Applied Theatre Practices. She also teaches on the Acting 1&2, Shakespeare and Actor Creator modules; as well as marking practical and written assessments.

Before starting this role Megan worked as an Associate Lecturer at the University of Chichester (UoC) and Guildford School of Acting (GSA). At UoC she worked with the course leader to develop and deliver the syllabus for the Acting Skills module on their new BA (Hons) Acting degree. At GSA she taught and assisted on performance projects including Naturalism and Shakespeare. Megan has also assisted with Contemporary Text projects at ArtsEd and the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts.

Megan has worked with the education and outreach departments of many theatre companies in the South, including Forest Forge Theatre Company (FFTC), Nuffield Southampton Theatres, Salisbury Playhouse and Chichester Festival Theatre (CFT). At CFT she directed three new short plays for the Heritage department in the Minerva Studio, as well as several community and Youth Theatre productions. At FFTC, in her role as Creative Learning Director, Megan assisted with the professional touring productions as well as directing scripted and devised productions for the Youth Theatre.

Professional practice

Megan teaches at all levels on the Acting course, and provides assessment and tutorial support. In 2018 Megan completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. Through this she continued to engage with current pedagogic methodologies, Active Research and became a Fellow of the Higher Education Authority.

Research Specialism

As part of my Masters degree I completed a practice methods for research module and a practice based research project which resulted in a performance and dissertation. On the PGCLTHE I completed an Action Research project and report. As a result my current areas of interest are:

– The inclusive audience

– Mindfulness in performance

– Active Analysis through Meisner and Viewpoints.

– Play and learning.
