Jonny studied Drama at Manchester University and trained with Jacques Lecoq in Paris. He has over 20 years’ experience as an actor, movement director, teacher, stilt-walker and puppeteer. Jonny has a qualification in Psychodrama, and has worked in Drama-Based Training, Corporate Role-Play, and Executive Coaching. His research interests revolve around the importance of laughter, and his passions for clowning, ecological sustainability, and creative collaboration.
Jonny’s first professional acting job was dressed as a frog, rapping about Chlorine at the Runcorn Science Museum for the Chemical Industries Association. He has since worked at the National Theatre (all 3 stages and studio), the Young Vic, the Gate, West Yorkshire Playhouse, and The West End, and has toured nationally and internationally, to venues of all sizes, including schools, barns, village halls and a nuclear bunker. As a Movement Director, he has supported a number of professional and student productions, and has developed and toured shows for both indoors and outdoors. Jonny developed and taught the Applied Movement Syllabus at the Oxford School of Drama for 5 years, and recently completed a postgraduate teaching qualification at Rose Bruford College, specialising in Clown pedagogy. He has been invited to teach at the Kunst Universitat Graz and has an active working relationship with Emerald Ant (for whom he is Chair on the Board of Directors), Stuff and Nonsense, Electric Cabaret, Angel Exit and Nu:Write Festival Zagreb.
