Kirsten presented her conference paper Designs on happiness: the inherent worth of artificial flowers at The Cost of Design, Design History Society annual conference, September 2019 at Northumbria University.

The paper explored the various use and values of artificial flowers & their relationship with happiness. It examined the persistent presence and popularity of artificial flowers through consideration of historical and contemporary examples in private & public spaces. The paper discussed artificial flowers use in charity promotion; home interiors; commercial urban places and how they are used as expressions of love and happiness in wider personal and public contexts too.
