The inspiration for this project was based upon varied experiences when travelling in China. Exploring and demonstrating the contrast of living conditions across the country. The poorly constructed homes made of found materials are represented through textural surface marks and decaying patterns, whilst the sharp geometric shapes reflect the many sky rise buildings with modern décor growing rapidly in towns and cities. This project explores soft and hard materials including velvet, linen, wallpaper and wood. Key techniques for these designs are digital printing, silk screen hand print and surface erosion through hand processes for the high end interiors market.
