BA (Hons) Photography graduate, Mimi Chambre, has been awarded Foto Now’s South West Graduate Photography Prize.
She will now work on a paid residency in partnership with Fotonow CIC and Knowle West Media Centre.
We caught up with Mimi earlier this year and she told us more about her entry and her time at AUB: “The images submitted for this prize formed part of my Level 6 Major Project work. In this work I transform images of the natural world using the photograph as a starting point from which I create something new. I manipulate images into hybrids that lie somewhere between painting and photography.
The images of minerals, waterfalls, stormy seas and planets you see in my work, though appearing real, are all creations derived from specific aspects of nature.
I greatly enjoyed my time spent at AUB. My course helped me to develop my practical work and theoretical understanding.
I also learnt about the importance of presentation and gained new skills in frame making that have greatly benefited my work. I liked the community feel to the campus and the supportive nature of the tutors and fellow course mates.”
