BA (Hons) Textiles alumnus, Lucy, graduated from AUB in 2013. Now a Junior Menswear Designer at, she tells us her story and shares her one piece of advice…

“Within six months of graduating, I secured a job with online retailer,, which was the best thing that could have happened to me.

“After working there for a year, I was promoted to Junior Designer and I’m now responsible for designing all of men’s clothing for

“My one piece of advice would be to get as much industry experience as you can before you graduate. As a student, you are encouraged to be very ‘out there’ and that freedom is amazing when you’re studying.

“I found that once I had graduated, the companies I was approaching for work wanted to see evidence that I could design commercially. This was something that was missing from my portfolio.

“Once you know the kind of job that you are looking for, do mini projects to show that you can design for that industry.

“Employers thought my work was very cool, but they wanted to see specifically what I could bring to their business and to the High Street.”

“One of the best things about my job is the amount I get to travel. I’ve been to Amsterdam, Florence, Delhi, Mumbai and next year I’ll get to go to Tokyo and Seoul.”
