The prestigious V&A Illustration Awards celebrate the best illustration published over the last year and are held annually by the V&A museum in London.
Judges narrowed down nearly a thousand entries to choose the best submissions across four categories: Student Illustrator of the Year, Book Illustration, Book Cover Design and Editorial Illustration.
Joan studied Fine Art at the University of Barcelona, Illustration in Escola Massana, and is currently studying MA Illustration at AUB.
He said: “When I started studying MA Illustration at AUB I was told to join as many competitions as I could to start getting my work more well known.
“While I was doing my first project I applied for different competitions. When I came across the V&A Student Illustration awards, it seemed like a great thing to be involved in.
“I entered my Mors Et Vita personal project. It took me a long to time to complete the work as it is a series of conceptual illustrations that shows my subjective point of view of the different stages between life and death.
“I was so excited when I was shortlisted, I couldn’t believe I could be a part of such a prestigious competition. But if you don’t try, you never know.”
Joan has been featured in a Catalonian TV interview and his work will be on display at the V&A outside the National Art Library until the 21st August 2016.
