She tells us more about her experience:
“Interning with Zandra Rhodes for two weeks was a great opportunity, and I enjoyed every moment! Zandra is renowned for her hand screen-printing and iconic, bold, illustrative and colourful print style and I mainly worked alongside Emma, the print designer, one out of a team of six creatives in a small studio set up.
My roles involved painting up new design ideas for a current Chinese Opera project ‘Chengdu’; tracing archive designs for a colouring book, assisting in the print room by baking fabric post printing and unblocking screens, and running errands.
During my first week the Missoni exhibition was launched at the Fashion and Textile Museum, which was extremely exciting as I had the chance to meet industry professionals and help prepare for the exhibition launch itself.
I was fortunate in that Zandra offers accommodation for her interns, a rarity in the industry. This allowed me to be able to stay in London for the two weeks and bond with other interns, but also experience living in Zandra’s house – she was an amazing host and very welcoming.
I have learned a huge amount of valuable skills – many of them leaving me keen to learn more about the printing process and applying textiles for fashion and other applications that I had not considered before.
My time working in Zandra’s studio has pushed me to gain further opportunities, and I fully recommend applying for a placement there.”
