Second year BA (Hons) Illustration student, Rachel Hyde, has illustrated the window display for Brighton based shop, Posh Totty Designs.

Rachel hand illustrated the design, featuring various buildings and landmarks of Brighton, in the space of one day and created a time lapse video of the process.

Rachel tells us more about how the opportunity came about: “For my ‘Visual Thinking’ unit in first year, we were required to make a zine. Using the starting point of capitalism, I decided to base my zine on independent shops in Brighton’s famous North Laines. I taught myself a freehand machine embroidery technique and ended up making a fully stitched material zine called ‘Independent Brighton’. After the university shared this project on social media, one of the shops I featured, ‘Posh Totty Designs’ came into contact with me and asked if I wanted to collaborate on a window display.

After meeting with the shop’s team, I came up with the design including a skyline of Brighton. Since I moved to Brighton last year, I have found the city very inspiring and wanted to embrace that. I also used the theme of fireworks night to give the design more of a relevant context, adding fireworks above the iconic Brighton buildings! I’ve never done anything like this before so the whole concept has been very exciting for me.”

Rachel’s design can be seen in the Flagship Sydney Street store for a limited time.
