BA (Hons) Illustration alumnus and AUB Visiting Tutor, Robin Mackenzie graduated in 2013 and has since been creating prints for books, products, magazines and a wide variety of exhibitions and shows.

Robin was approached in June 2015 by Ardbeg Whiskey distillery to create illustrations for their new special edition whiskey, Ardbeg Dark Cove.  The brief was to design four wood engravings that told the story of the smuggling past that led to Ardbeg’s origins as a distillery on the Scottish island of Islay in 1815.

The engravings had to cover the different elements Ardbeg’s smuggling past and each had to include a source of light that could be printed in silver ink.  The rest of the engraving would be printed in black ink on a dark background producing a mysterious quality to the prints.

Robin works as an Illustrator and Printmaker specialising in wood engravings and lino-cuts, currently working from his studio at Walford Mill Crafts in Wimborne, Dorset using a traditional cast iron Albion Press to produce his prints.
