BA (Hons) Graphic Design student Mike Smith has won a competition to design a poster for a ‘United Nations’ sponsored ‘World Toilet day’ for Pump Aid.
Pump Aid’s current programmes are improving access to safe, sustainable water for rural households in Malawi. Through partnership with communities they also safeguard health through better hygiene and sanitation practises and support entrepreneurial approaches to water supply, helping them to move beyond water and achieve lasting empowerment and sustainability.
Mike said: “My design was intended to convey pump aid’s message clearly whilst still making it dramatic and compelling. I entered because I felt that the designs would be working towards a good cause, was a good opportunity to gain experience and also establish some good relationships with the organisation. I am happy they chose my design, because it means that something I created has the potential to really make a difference to people’s lives.”
