Alumna of the AUB BA (Hons) Make-up for Media and Performance course, Kate Wakefield achieved an amazing First Place in the professional ‘Fantasy Makeup’ category at the National Make Up Awards, held at Birmingham NEC.
The theme of the category was Pirates of the Caribbean.
Kate graduated from AUB in 2016. She said:
“I chose to base my character on the Davy Jones Crew as a Pirate that is slowly transforming through an amalgamation with a crab.
“I created the character with a sculpture of the crab, moulded and then ran with Latex and Rigid Expanding Foam.
“With nose and cheek appliances Sculpted, Moulded in Polyurethane Resin and run with encapsulated Silicone.
“I also created a knotted beard and moustache with Yak hair to finish the effect.
“It was a great experience to push myself to complete this makeup in such a short time frame and see what I could create.
“I’m very proud to have competed and of course to have won the Fantasy Makeup Category.“
Fellow 2016 graduate, Claire Golby, achieved third place in the same category. She commented:
“I find competitions really push me to create new makeups alongside my work. I can use new materials and techniques whilst expanding my portfolio.”
