Fine Art graduate in residence, Sian Hutchings, recently ran a workshop entitled ‘A Composition for Drawing’ for students from Richmond College, along with final year student, Joseff Morgan.
Sian tells us more about the event: “After the success of running the sonic journals workshop for South Downs College, I was asked to run a fine art/illustration based workshop for art students from Richmond College.
For this workshop, I wanted to expand on the workshop that I ran with international students from Kyoto University. I asked final year student, Joseff Morgan, who helped me with the last workshop to work with me on this.
This time, we planned more group tasks. One of these got the students working together on a group composition, during which they listened to the sound of their drawings through contact microphones and used this to inform their mark-making.
We wanted to use the workshop as a platform to show the students what they can expect from the BA (Hons) Fine Art course, including multi-disciplinary approaches, collaboration between peers and broadening the context of what art can be.”
