Architecture lecture, Friday 29th January 2016: A film made and presented by Zan Barberton & Syann van Niftrik
A collaboration between Syann van Niftrik and a filmmaker – working with a potter (Jonathan Garrett – makes a vessel, which is then dropped and smashed) and an archaeologist (Lorraine Mepham reassembles it, simultaneously trying to piece together a picture of its history). The theme of this piece is the nature of the creative process. Through watching the process of making, breaking and remaking, on film, the audience is drawn untrammelled, beyond the ‘activity,’ to viewing the object as a poetic repository of the thoughts, emotions and cultural landscape of it’s maker.
The pot itself – bearing the scars.
