Third Year BA (Hons) Costume and Performance Design Student Stephanie Badley wins Patterns of Fashion 2017 Award 2017

The Patterns of Fashion Award (POF) honours the work of the dress historian Janet Arnold (1932-1998), a founder member of the Society.

The competition asks students studying on costume and fashion-related education courses that involve the design and realisation of costume, to reconstruct a garment from a pattern in one of the Janet Arnold Patterns of Fashion books, with a prize of £500 awarded to the winning student.

Speaking about her work and influences Stephanie said:

”I have always been fascinated by social history and the way it shows itself in historical clothing, so recreating an 1887 Day Dress for the Patterns of Fashion award was a perfect opportunity for my final project at AUB. All the construction techniques I used are the same as those that were used in the original, learnt from the primary research I carried out visiting the original and similar examples at the V&A and Bath Fashion Museum. I’m thrilled to win the award, having seen the high standard of previous winners.”
