This summer, the BFX Competition (July 11th – August 26th 2016) is open to students or recent graduates of Visual Effects or Animation at any UK University or College.

BFX is a student competition, designed to give students direct exposure to cutting-edge practices and showcase their skills to some of the best supervisors, producers and artists in the VFX and animation industry.

The competition lasts seven weeks, during which competitors respond to a live brief, while being mentored by university staff and industry experts.

Participants will be tasked with creating a stunning 2D or 3D visual effects or animation sequence that is based on one of several supplied screenplays.

The brief will be set by two important charities; Create, an arts charity that develops programs for disadvantaged and vulnerable children; and Refuge, that provides support to victims of domestic violence.

In 2014 and 2015 mentors and judges came from some of the UK’s most exciting companies: Framestore, Double Negative, The Mill, MPC, Animal Logic, PsyOp, Realise Studios, Hibbert Ralph Animation, ILM London, ToonBoom, Chaos Group, Outpost VFX, Glassworks and Blue Zoo.

Competitors are supported by free accommodation at AUB and Bournemouth University for the duration of the competition and paid expenses.

BFX has partnered with media accountants Kingston Smith this year, as part of their Creative Vision Award.
