On Friday 31st March, The Noematic Collective held a sonic takeover in the Drawing Studio at Arts University Bournemouth.

Sian Hutchings, Graduate in Residence for BA (Hons) Fine Art, founded the collective after starting a sound group open to all students within AUB.

“The aim of the group was to highlight sound arts as a contemporary field of artistic practice and to be able to discuss all matters of sounds.” says Sian.

The group recently decided that instead of just using the weekly sessions to discuss work, they would collaborate on a project together, hence the formation of the collective.

The Noematic Collective, Noematic meaning something to be experienced, held their first exhibition in the Drawing Studio on 31st March. The exhibition featured as a sonic response to the Drawing Studio and all that entails it. Whether that be a response to the act of drawing to the name of the building and even using the architecture as a form of instrumentation.

The group has since been asked to run their very own sonic workshop at the upcoming ‘Sound of Memory Symposium‘ that is held at Whitechapel Gallery and Goldsmiths University.

The workshop will be at Goldsmiths on Sunday 23rd April from 3-5pm. All are welcome and the symposium is free to attend.
