Stevie Boxall graduated from FdA Visual Communication in 2008 and is now working for local design and marketing agency Chillifish, which was until recently based in the Enterprise Pavilion on campus. Chillifish have designed the website for Pretty Green, the classic clothing range owned, founded and designed by Oasis’ Liam Gallagher. Stevie tells us a little about why he decided to study Visual Communication and what life has been like for him since graduating.
‘I was a mature student and had worked previously as a designer. I wanted a course with a good reputation that would train me directly to go straight back into industry. My work placement as part of the course was at Paparazzi magazine, a local free magazine in Bournemouth and Poole. The placement was really varied, as well as designing I was writing music reviews, checking copy and doing the gig and club listings. I was really lucky, it was very laid back. the AUB was a great foundation which enabled me to hit the ground running with my first job. ‘
‘I’m really enjoying my job at the moment, I’ve never been so busy! I’ve worked on the website for an organic beauty company, an interior designer and even for a villa in France. I have quite a lot of creative freedom and I’m finding that I can really help a client if they know what they want. The most exciting and challenging project so far has been the website for Pretty Green, Liam Gallagher’s clothing company. It’s our most recognisable site. The brief was to almost create a gallery space, but it had to reflect Liam’s personality – be direct and to the point – whilst looking luxurious at the same time. We had to try and merge those elements together.
