BA (Hons) Textiles student, Brooke Wakeman, tells us about her placement at Winchester based print design studio, Peagreen.

“It was a great opportunity – I learnt so much during my time there and I feel very fortunate to have had the experience. I designed prints through every stage, from drawing to a completed digital design. The prints I designed covered a wide variety of themes ranging from floral designs through to ladybirds, cars and capsicum peppers.

“I found the experience useful to understand how a design studio runs day-to-day and I was able to join the daily morning meetings, at which sales, new designs and customer briefs were discussed.

“During my placement, I worked to a few different briefs provided by customers, including J Crew and John Lewis, as well as designing from my own ideas for prints for the company’s general collection. It was exciting that at least two of the prints I designed were sold – one to Bonobos in America, which will be printed onto men’s shirts, and one to Makower, an English fabric manufacturer.

“My time on placement at Peagreen was a fantastic opportunity to experience a textile working environment. I am hugely grateful to all the designers for sharing their expertise and giving me the chance to really appreciate what is involved to be a textile designer.”
