BA (Hons) Photography graduate, Kiran Tasneem, has been announced as FloatArt 2015 winner.

Kiran’s work ‘Identity’ featured in an exhibition alongside 61 other graduate artists, showcasing work from a variety of mediums. She was voted ‘stand out artist’ by the general public, and won a £3,000 prize.

FloatArt London provides graduate artists valuable advice in following a career in the arts, with the annual exhibition enabling graduates to gain significant exposure and recognition. The exhibition took place over four days, with seminars and talks specifically for graduates.

Kiran tells us more about her work and the exhibition: “Identity uses self-portraiture and traditional Islamic dress to reference the stages of covering that are prominent in Islamic countries. Representing the contrast from the West to the East, the subject gradually blends into the background. The audience is asked to consider how the identity of women in Islamic culture is shaped by the limitations they face.

I was immensely proud of winning the £3,000 prize, which will greatly assist me in future projects. My work focuses on drawing attention to gender inequality, and the appreciation of my work at the exhibition only encourages me to strive further with my goal. “

Kiran will be exhibiting the series at AUB Students’ Union BUMF gallery from 5 – 13 November 2015.
