MA Film Production Course Leader, David Munns’ latest film project, Bikini Moon, premiered in the US on Saturday 3rd March at Cinequest Film Festival.
This news comes after the film’s world premiere at the Sao Paulo Film Festival in Brazil generated a succession of encouraging reviews. It will next be screened at the Sofia International Film Festival in Bulgaria.
David Munns worked as Production Designer for the poignant film, which will also be screened four times as part of the Silicon Valley Festival’s ‘Life’ line-up.
Directed by Milcho Manchevski, Bikini Moon (2017) is set in New York and follows Bikini (played by Condola Rashad), a homeless Iraqi war veteran with mental health issues. Her situation garners the attention of a documentary film crew looking to exploit her for a story.
SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIP WITH DIRECTOR
Unable to give too much away due to the film’s dramatic final twist, David said:
“The look [of the film] was to be very much a documentary – following a documentary crew who started to make a documentary about Bikini… At the end, it becomes a very different world. A lot of my work was to do with this ‘different world’… which the trailer doesn’t indicate anything about.
I’ve worked with Milcho Manchevski since the early 90s, which started with a film called Before the Rain. It received many Oscar nominations and countless international awards.”
