Lewis Gilbert OBE: 1920 – 2018
AUB’s Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stuart Bartholomew, remembers the late Lewis Gilbert OBE:
“We received the sad news of the death of Lewis Gilbert OBE an Honorary Fellow of the Arts University. With a career starting as an apprentice to Alexander Korda and shortly after with Alfred Hitchcock, his film making spans 60 years.
He received numerous Oscar and BAFTA nominations and subsequent awards with films such as Alfie with Michael Caine, Educating Rita with Julie Waters and You Only Live Twice with Sean Connery, amongst many others.
Lewis gave a number of master classes to film production students which were enthusiastically received.
A modest man, his life in films ranks amongst the most significant in the history of British cinema.”
