Katie Thomas studied both BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design and a Masters in Architecture: Spatial Practices at AUB. Last year she teamed up with AFC Bournemouth Footballer, Tyrone Mings, to start up KTM Design Studio.

She talks about how their Interior Design and Architecture company, which specialises in high-quality commercial and residential design, has developed over the past year.

“We wanted to bring imaginative, fresh, innovative design to Bournemouth. Our aim was to create a unique design service that offers high quality, intelligent design solutions for home and business owners wanting something extra special. We save people time and money, which we consider a luxury.

“With commercial clients in the last year including Greene King, Challs International, CMP UK, Casterbridge Wealth Investments and numerous residential clients all over the country, from a luxury interior project in Liliput to an architectural project in Bath, we are energised and motivated for the challenges and adventures of 2017.

“As a design practice we take a holistic approach to our projects. KTM Design offers the complete package from start to finish. Gaining planning permission, construction drawings, designing, installing, styling, project managing, and most importantly we ensure a snag-free completion – whether it is one room or fifty.

“We have been working on the interior of a three-story new-build office in Suffolk, after the client’s previous HQ was destroyed in a fire. It is especially rewarding to be able to help them create their dream office after going through such devastation.

“I am still motivated by passion and creativity as much as when I was 12 and decided I wanted to be an interior designer! But I have since found out that being an interior designer is so much more rewarding than I ever imagined. I relish my ability to solve people’s problems and improve their lifestyles, businesses, health and relationships, all through design. For me it is all about the people, it always has been. Making great design accessible to everyone.”

Katie also teaches on the Interior Design evening courses at AUB on Tuesdays and Thursday.
