Interior Architecture work on town Ice Rink
Ten students from BA (Hons) Interior Architecture & Design have been working with THAT Group to design, develop and build an information kiosk for the Lower Gardens Ice Rink
Student Jane Lee tells us about the project:
“Our kiosk will serve as a welcoming structure to visitors, as well as house information for the ice rink and direct customers to the bar area (served by South Coast Roast) and to the skate exchange area. We will also be projection mapping onto the ice rink with winter elements to enhance the atmosphere.
Together as a group, we organised meetings with the Creative Director of the project to pitch our ideas and concepts. By making a site model and a variety of sketch models, we successfully pitched our designs and started refining the final design. The kiosk structure was designed to be cave-like and mountainous to reflect the Alps and wintertime, whereas projections onto the ice rink will include interactive movement-triggered sensors to add an element of fun for skaters. Lecturers, on the course and external, advised us through each work stage with their expertise with tutorials and workshop sessions to make our concepts feasible.
The live brief is set to be 6 weeks, which challenges us to work at a fast pace from concept to completion. We are, at the moment, ready to start the kiosk construction and finalising the animations for projection mapping onto the rink.”
Ice Skate Bournemouth will be open on 19th November 2015 – 3rd January 2016.
