BA (Hons) Make-up for Media and Performance graduate, Claire Golby, has been awarded First Prize in the Warpaint Make-up Championships 2017.

Claire won the Student Category for Film & TV, designing and applying a show-stopping entry based on the theme of the French Revolution.

There were compulsory elements to consider for the character design which included an illness, a prosthetic piece, a recent injury and a make-up effect that had to be created without prosthetics.

The hair was also styled and included the making and application of facial postiche.

Claire explains: “I had to tell the judges about my character and show them my research ideas for the transformation.

I explained that my designs are based upon a young soldier who has an infected abdominal wound, a black eye and defensive knife wounds to his neck and hand.

The application went pretty smoothly and I am absolutely thrilled to win first prize!
