Tom Hovey studied BA (Hons) Illustration at AUB, graduating in 2006. Since graduating, Tom worked in London for a while, before landing the biggest gig of his life, illustrating one of the UK’s most popular television shows – The Great British Bake Off.
Tom now lives and works in Bristol. We visited his studio to catch up with him and find out just how he shaped his unique career as a food illustrator.
Arts University Bournemouth is pleased to announce that Associate Professor, Dominic Shepherd and Course Leader, Richard Waring from BA (Hons) Fine Art will be delivering a paper in London next week.
The paper entitled ‘Heart; Head; Hand: Painting in a Post-digital World’ will be presented to the Royal Academy of Arts in London, as part of the ‘Teaching Painting: Painting the New Research Group’ conference, which runs from Tuesday, June 19 – Wednesday, June 20.
Third-year BA (Hons) Illustration student, Deniz Gunsav has been selected as one of six winners of the Hotel Indigo D&AD Brief.
The prestigious D&AD New Blood Awards recognise young up-and-coming creatives. Deniz’ submission, ‘Stone Guests’, plays with the idea of classic luxury and modern conveniences, alluding to both being available at the Hotel Indigo.
Fine Art Course Leader Richard Waring and Graduate in Residence, Joe Morgan, along with ten first-year students travelled to Athens for a situated pedagogy project entitled ‘Aisthetikos.’
The group were based at the well-known Athenian cultural centre called Six d.o.g.s which has a project space, a bar and is an international music venue.
BA (Hons) Illustration student, Fay Troote has been shortlisted for the V&A 2018 Illustration Awards.
A prestigious event in the illustration world’s calendar, the V&A Illustration Awards recognises the cream of the crop in book, editorial and student illustration. The annual competition began back in 1972 and has included the likes of Helen Musselwhite, Posy Simmonds, Quentin Blake and Ralph Steadman amongst its previous winners.

Faye Bowden is a working artist who graduated from the BA (Hons) Fine Art course in 2015.
After applying for a residency run by the Royal Drawing School in October 2017, Faye was successful and will be attending a two-week, full-time residency based in Dumfries House, South-West Scotland. We chatted with Faye before her impending and exciting opportunity began.
