National Teaching Fellow book features AUB staff

The new National Teaching Fellows book ‘For the Love of Learning – Innovations from Outstanding University Teachers’ (edited by Tim Bilham, published by Palgrave) contains a paper by AUB Graphic Design Principal Lecturer and Associate Professor Kirsten Hardie, and Visiting Tutor Anne Grove-White relating to their BA (Hons) Graphic Design Project.

The book offers a great selection of 36 essays from a variety of disciplines.

Second Prep for HE Exhibition held at B Floor gallery

The second Preparation for HE exhibition, displaying work from both Extended and Foundation Diploma students, was held on Wednesday 27th November.

Of the 18 pieces of work on display at the dedicated B Floor gallery space, ‘The Journalist’, a short film by Adam Dean, Will Gething, Clark Barrett and Kyle Grainger, was selected as best in show by the judges.

B Floor Gallery – Prep HE Exhibition Space

The B Floor Gallery is a dedicated exhibition space for the work produced by students of Preparation for HE courses. The gallery holds four exhibitions each year, where students can submit work to be shown. Of the work that is submitted, 18 pieces are chosen for exhibition by staff and a prize is given for ‘best in show’.

The next exhibition opens on Wednesday 27th November at 4.30pm. The winner of ‘best in show’ will also be announced at this time.

AUB + artSOUTH collaborations

This weekend – 7th September 2013 – brings the grand opening to celebrate the current exhibition in TheGallery. Arts University Bournemouth is delighted to present ‘Potential Architecture’ an exhibition of artwork by Lucy + Jorge Orta.

The exhibition brings together new work: sculpture, drawings and models created by Lucy + Jorge Orta during their research on new organic and modular architecture as a result of their collaborations with the Greenham partnership and other communities across Europe.

A good read

From insects that live in your outside toilet to a critical dictionary that emphasises the open-ended, provisional and unfinished nature of language, Lecturers at Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) continue to publish tomes across a plethora of creative subjects that not only emphasise their specialism but also highlight their continuing involvement in the creative industries.

Over 30 books have been published in the last seven years, with the books being sold on bookshelves across the country, including in the Tate and on Amazon. The latest book to be published, ‘Insect Theatre’ by Tim Edgar, Senior Lecturer in Photography investigates the epic struggles of the insects that colonise his outside toilet, visually told through a series of intricate macro photographs. Although not the most conventional setting for a book, as Tim explained, he has always been drawn to “unspectacular natural history” and bringing it to life.

D&AD New Blood nominations

A number of students from both the Graphic Design and Visual Communication courses at Arts University Bournemouth have been nominated for their work in the prestigious Design and Art Direction (D&AD) New Blood Awards, with winners being announced in early July.

The D&AD New Blood Awards are open to anyone in full or part-time education. Creatives all over the world value the D&AD Student Awards, and winning truly marks the students out as one of the best. The students are given real briefs set by real clients, which are then judged by representatives of the brand and top creatives.

Tanya Pye, a third year BA (Hons) Costume and Performance Design student, runs arts and craft sessions encouraging children to explore their creative side.

The charity, Balloons for Children, was formed three years ago to help children with all types of disabilities to express themselves freely in an all-inclusive setting.

A campus of creativity

From Friday 21st – Thursday 27th June, Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) will be turning into a giant exhibition space, as graduating students from the specialist University’s arts, design, media and performance degrees will be exhibiting their work as part of the annual Summer Shows programme.

With 1,060 third year students from 21 BA (Hons) degree courses exhibiting their work, AUB will become a giant exhibition space – a campus of creativity for the week, culminating in the Graduation Ceremony at Wimborne Minster on Friday 28th June.
