Final year BA (Hons) Illustration student Dan Widdowson has won Gold in the Illustration and Animation category of the Creative Conscience awards 2014.
Richard Piper graduated from Digital Media Production in 2010, and is hoping to embark on a career with the top games company in the USA.
After graduating, Richard went straight into work with TT Fusion – creators of the Lego games where he worked on the teams that modelled, textured and designed entire Lego cities including Star Wars III, Clone Wars.
Graduating students from Textiles had the opportunity to exhibit at New Designers, Part One 2014 at the Business Design Centre Islington
The Show was open to the public from 25th – 28th June. The AUB, BA Textiles stand showcased 20 graduates work, covering a broad range of skills within the textiles specialism. There were also four 2013 Textile graduates exhibiting at New Designers One Year On; Chloe Atkins, Georgia Bocchetta, Ruby Marquet-Horwood and Emilie Osborne.
AUB Fashion opened the Monday Catwalk at Graduate Fashion Week – wowing both press and industry with an eclectic and innovative show.
Volkswagen have offered an endorsement of the final major project of Level 6 student Carl Williams, who designed a robotic home for a young woman suffering from tetra-amelia syndrome.
Carl said: ‘The aim of the project was to provide Independence for a severely disabled person, born without all of her limbs. Her name is Joanne O’Riordan. Using futuristic but realistic technologies, Joanne’s living space is transformed around her to allow her to function with complete independence.
AUB YE Graduate Start Up company, ‘L–E’ presented their company idea in London to judges at the Young Enterprise National Start Up Finals.
Laura Schofield and Emma Caswell, from BA (Hons) Illustration, represented the Southwest region in the Young Enterprise National Start Up Finals on 14th May. Competing against eight other universities and colleges in the prestigious setting of One Canada Square, Canary Wharf, their company L–E is based on the concept of unique gift items where no two items are ever the same.
Make-up for Media and Performance will be exhibiting at IMATS in June from 27th-29th. This year our stand has doubled in size, as has the number of students (approx 30) who will be demonstrating their practical hair, make-up and prosthetic skills.
The exhibition in London is one of only 6 around the World which is specifically for the make-up industry with world renowned make-up and prosthetic artists holding seminars and demonstrations, there is also a creature museum and international make-up supplies companies.
Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Stuart Bartholomew has been awarded the honour of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by HM Queen Elizabeth II.
Professor Bartholomew received the honour for services to higher education as part of the 2014 New Year’s Honours List.
BA (Hons) Fine Art students have raised £8000 for their degree show with an auction of work from the likes of Jeremy Deller, Ralph Steadman and Kiki Smith.
The auction, which took place on Tuesday 6th March on the AUB campus, raised just shy of £8000. The money raised will go towards the BA (Hons) Fine Art degree show at Free Range in the Old Truman Brewery, London.
The BAFTA Creative Skillset Guest Lecture Programme for 2014 began with six-time BAFTA nominee Ivana Primorac (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Anna Karenina) discussing the craft of hair and make-up design at Arts University Bournemouth.
Make-up for Media and Performance Course leader Sara Taylor said: “Ivana Primorac’s lecture was inspirational. She shared her extensive knowledge and experience of working as a Make-up and Hair Designer in the global film industry with BA (Hons) Make-up for Media and Performance students and alumni. The networking event was also a great success. Students talked at length with our 6 times BAFTA nominated guest speaker, which gave them the opportunity to discuss the industry, career aspirations and potential employment opportunities – A roaring success!”
Two leading industry figures in the worlds of scenography and architecture have been confirmed as Visiting Professors for AUB.
Renowned practising scenographer Professor Pamela Howard OBE and RIBA Gold Medal–winning architect Professor Sir Peter Cook will share their wealth of knowledge with both staff and students across a number of courses.
AUB Staff are working in Partnership with Cambridge University and the European Society for the Study of Western Esotericism to present a two day collaborative conference entitled ‘Visions of Enchantment’ which sees some of the leading academics in the field from across the world present, including Professor Antoine Faive (Sorbonne University) and Dr Marco Pasi (University of Amsterdam)
The conference provides a modern take on an age old subject and artform – underpinned by AUB staff and their research specialisms.
