Hew Locke: Strangers in Paradise is a detailed monograph into the fascinating and multi-layered work of artist Hew Locke. Using a wide range of media, including painting, drawing, photography and sculpture and extensively found objects and collage Locke’s work addresses recurring themes of visual expressions of power, trophies, globalisation, movement of people and the creating of cultures.
Hew Locke: Stranger in Paradise combines essays on Locke’s work, with sections of full page visuals, showing the real power of Locke’s artwork.
This publication accompanied the exhibition …In the footsteps of Henry Taunt, curated by Graham Diprose and Jeff Robins, offering a unique insight into one of England’s most prolific Victorian photographers Henry Taunt.
Taunt’s maps, guides, postcards and lectures provided inspiration for books such as ‘Three Men in a Boat’ and ‘The Wind in the Willows’ as well as nurturing the Victorians’ love for London’s river Thames.
