Museum of Design in Plastics wins HEFCE funding

The Museum of Design in Plastics (MoDiP) at Arts University Bournemouth has been selected to receive £76,625 funding for 2017/18 from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).

HEFCE praised MoDiP for being a museum that makes a unique and significant contribution to national and international research and scholarship, alongside the Fitzwilliam Museum at Cambridge University and the Ashmolean Museum at Oxford University.

2013 Acting graduate lands Eastenders role

Harry Reid, 2013 Acting graduate, will be joining the BBC’s long running soap Eastenders, taking over the role of Ben Mitchell, Phil Mitchell’s son. Harry’s first episodes as Ben can be seen later in the year. Congratulations Harry!

AUB appoints Sir Christopher Frayling as new Chancellor

The formal ceremony to install Professor Sir Christopher Frayling as the Arts University Bournemouth’s first Chancellor in 125 years took place at St James Church Poole on the 9th April 2014.

Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Stuart Bartholomew, CBE is delighted with the appointment and comments: “The Arts University Bournemouth is honoured to welcome Professor Sir Christopher Frayling as Chancellor.  Sir Christopher has had a distinguished career as former Rector of the Royal College of Art and Chair of the Arts Council England.  He has been a champion of specialist education in the arts and has done much to promote the relationship between specialist institutions of art and design and the creative industries. The academic community of staff and students look forward to the advocacy which Sir Christopher will provide and which will naturally extend beyond the ceremonial duties he will fulfil.”

New MArch course at AUB receives RIBA Part 2 candidate status

As of the 25th September 2013, the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has granted Arts University Bournemouth’s new Master of Architecture course RIBA Part 2 Candidate Status. The BA(Hons) Architecture founded in 2007 already carries RIBA Part 1 and both courses already hold Architect Registration Boards Part 1 and Part 2 Prescription respectively.

Bournemouth student housing project comes into view

They are up to 80 metres high, have booms 40 metres long and can lift 70 tons of building materials in a single load.

A number of students from both the Graphic Design and Visual Communication courses at Arts University Bournemouth have been nominated for their work in the prestigious Design and Art Direction (D&AD) New Blood Awards, with winners being announced in early July.

The D&AD New Blood Awards are open to anyone in full or part-time education. Creatives all over the world value the D&AD Student Awards, and winning truly marks the students out as one of the best. The students are given real briefs set by real clients, which are then judged by representatives of the brand and top creatives.

AUB gets on its bike!

Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) is quite literally ‘getting on its bike’, with the delivery of a custom made bicycle from Boscombe Bike Club, a group of AUB students who are dedicated to the upcycling and refurbishing of unwanted bicycles to turn them into a working piece of cool visual art.
