An opportunity exists to join a team of skilled technical staff, supporting students and working within academic units of the BA (Hons) Costume and Performance Design course and across collaborative projects of complementary subjects.
You will have a thorough knowledge and understanding of scenography, set design and theatrical model making, and experience of working on shows, productions and live performances. Experience of working in an education setting is desirable, whilst an understanding of effective workplace health and safety, and the ability to work as a member of a team and independently using your own initiative, is essential.
Under the management of the Senior Technician, the successful candidate will deliver and support technical and health and safety workshops and demonstrations to groups of students on new and existing equipment, resources, processes and techniques; issue and receive equipment and resources to and from stores, including undertaking first line maintenance and maintaining inventories and asset lists; ensure processes are followed to maintain high standards of health, safety and welfare; and provide effective and reactive technical support throughout the working day.
You will need to be flexible in your approach to the working day and environment as this varied post supports a diverse range of individuals, and could entail occasional evening and weekend working, on a rota basis, which may be on or off the University’s main campus.
You must possess GCSE grade A-C, or equivalent, in English and Maths and a minimum level 3 qualification in costume interpretation and/or theatre design. A subject relevant degree qualification, or equivalent experience in an appropriate field, would be advantageous. It is also desirable that you hold a full UK/EU driving license.
