National minimum wage
The National Minimum Wage is the minimum pay per hour almost all workers are entitled to.
The National Living Wage is higher than the National Minimum Wage – workers get it if they’re over 25.
The current rates are as follows:
- 25 and over – £7.20
- 21 to 24 year olds – £6.95
- 18 to 20 year olds – £5.55
- 16 to 17 year olds – £4.00

International students who are looking for paid work in the UK will need to apply for a National Insurance number.
