The AUB Careers & Employability Service has organised a series of events to help you plan your next steps and really make your CV stand out.

Graduating brings with it a mix of emotions- you might be feeling excited about stepping out into the world of work, have a clear idea of what you want to do or you could be feeling overwhelmed or a little unsure of your next steps.  AUB Advantage is a series of events aimed to support you by offering opportunities to develop your CV as well as sessions designed to give you some practical support for planning your career after AUB.

Events will be running in the weeks leading up to graduation – some courses have limited spaces so be sure to sign up early to avoid disappointment.

Adobe online training and exam

AUB is offering 125 students the chance to receive online training in an Adobe package of your choice which will prepare you for the Adobe Associate  exams.  You will be able to book onto exams at AUB

Exams will be held at AUB on June 13th, June 14th, June 17th and June 18th

Career Confidence & Resilience – Get work ready and Discover your unique DNA using Myers Briggs personality profiling!       Monday May 20th, F005  – tuesday May 21st  K102 10-4pm

2 day professional development course with executive coach and ex BBC reporter, Jan Armstrong.

This 2-day Workshop will allow you to hit the ground running in your new job or freelance career.

The Workshop focuses on building your confidence and communication skills as you step into the creative industry.

You will discover your own unique DNA by using Myers Briggs personality profiling to help you understand your strengths and blind spots as well as how you operate in a work environment.   At the end of this workshop you will:

  • Develop your confidence as you begin a new job or freelance role
  • Increase your impact in 1-1 conversations and meetings
  • Learn how to pitch yourself, your ideas, your project
  • Get to know the Brand You and what you have to offer
  • Understand company culture and what that means for you
  • Manage your time when there’s never enough of it

Got a LinkedIn profile but not really sure how to use it effectively?  this practical session will give you tips on building a stand out profile and how to use LinkedIn to research your career options, find jobs and widen your network.

First Aid Training –  May & JUne

This one day practical course delivered by Immerse Medical will give you the knowledge and skills needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations and/or take on the role of emergency first aider in the workplace.

You will receive a recognised Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, valid for 3 years.

Silk Factory Digital Agency will give a presentation about breaking in to the digital Industry as well as tips on recruitment process- how to make a successful approach when contacting companies. There is also the opportunity to gain some work experience by pitching your ideas. This event is open to students from all year groups at AUB

Teaching as a Career    MAY 23RD, 2- 3.30PM,  F005 (conference centre)

Considering Secondary teaching? Will Grant, Senior Lecturer from UWE Bristol in Secondary Art & Design Education will run this informative session covering different ways of getting into the teaching profession. This event is open to all students

Starting out as a Freelancer     May 29th  F006 – may 30th,  k102 9-4pm

In this 2 day course run by Outset, you’ll find what you need to know as a new freelancer or startup owner. A great opportunity to gain an insight into business planning, marketing and finance. You will need to be available to attend BOTH days of this course.

Creative student to creative professional – building confidence post AUB  june 5th 10-1pm, F005 (conference centre)

In this interactive workshop you will creatively explore your strengths and gain some practical ideas for dealing with the new challenges that you will face in pursuing your career post graduation. Ce Johnson will give tips on looking after your well being and maintaining positivity throughtout this next stage of your career.

Recent research by Goldsmith’s university has found that learning tricks can build confidence and increase wellbeing!  Local Magician, Sleight of Andy, will be sharing some of his top tricks with AUB Final years!

HR Consultant, Helen Rivero will help you explore your values and support your career planning. You’ll get the chance to take the comprehensive GC Index psychometric test to gain a better understanding of yourself which will help you explore your values and plan your career. You will need to be available to attend BOTH days of this course.

Introduction to Teaching     May & June

Would you like to learn how to teach your craft, what it takes to run a workshop?  Thinking about teaching as a potential career? This introductory course run by Skills & Learning will give you an introduction to teaching.  You will receive a Nationally recognised City & Guilds accreditation: Level 2 Award – Introduction to Trainer Skills. Please note that you will need to attend BOTH days of the course to gain the certificate.
